A Word from Frank HamiltonThe word "defiance" occurred to me from the reading of Gene Sharp, an amazing gentleman living in East Boston who through his great book on non-violent resistance called "From Dictatorship to Democracy" (full book here as free download) has managed to influence world events such as The Arab Spring in Tunisia and Egypt, the Velvet Revolution and others through his Albert Einstein Institute. He uses the term "political defiance" as part of his non-violent revolutionary approach to authoritarianism. Robbie Lieberman's book, "My Song is My Weapon" gave me the idea to put her treatise together with Gene Sharp's term. Since we are a song-oriented community, it made sense that we should follow Sharp's advice and use our music as a way of counteracting the Trump and reactionary so-called right wing agenda through satire, songs, and stories. I believe in non-violent revolution to overthrow the tendency toward fascism in the U.S. I also believe that as Robbie put it in her book, "A song can change the world."
